ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (Feb. 14, 2024) – Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) alumna, Kyra Purvis, ‘21 has been named mistress of ceremonies for this year’s Founder’s Day Scholarship Gala.
Purvis is a general assignment reporter for the Birmingham, Ala., ABC 33/40 station’s morning show, “Good Morning, Alabama.” Before going to Birmingham, Purvis worked at the WFXL Fox 31 station in Albany, Ga. as a multimedia journalist.
A Salisbury, Maryland native, Purvis earned her bachelor’s in mass communications and said she’s excited to return to Viking Land.
“I am so elated to have the chance to serve as the mistress of ceremonies for my own university’s Founder’s Day Scholarship Gala. Elizabeth City State University nurtured and developed the gifts that have led me into my career,” she said. “I am looking forward to coming back to campus and pouring back into it, as the faculty and staff did for me just a few years ago.”
Since its inception in 2007, the gala has raised $1.6 million to support the General Scholarship Fund. It is the ECSU Foundation’s premiere fundraiser.
